Captain Planet

Captain Planet has been hustling in the competitive NYC DJ scene since 2000, when he first arrived from the San Francisco Bay. In addition to rocking crowds weekly in hotspots like Fat Baby, Bembe, Cielo, and Highline Ballroom among others, he has also travelled abroad, bringing his funky international flavor to Europe and the Caribbean. Outside of the clubs, Capt. Planet hosts New York City's one-of-a-kind global roots radio show "Passport" on WNYU 89.1 FM (www.wnyu.org). With such high demand for his unique gumbo funk selections, he created the popular "Captain's Crate" audioblog (www.bywayof.net) where people from around the world are able to hear a fresh selection of MP3s and DJ mixes every week. Most recently, his monthly "Mixtape Riot" (www.mixtaperiot.com) party has been receiving hype in magazines and newspapers as well as giving him the opportunity to spin for prominent Hip Hop ad R&B artists such as Ghostface, Bahamadia, Sway, Ladybug Mecca, Stephanie McKay, and Sky Hy - to name just a few. His 2006 release, "The Gumbo Funk EP" on Bastard Jazz Records sold out internationally in weeks and left DJs and listeners alike waiting for the next installment. He has also produced full-length albums with NY-based hip hop groups The Beatards and Building Bloc. You can catch him at a live show behind the mic as well as manning the turntables.
