Subatomic Sound System - Our Father, Our King

BJ7-005 - 7" vinyl

Another tasty little dub treat from the good folks over at Bastard Jazz who have been turning heads not only for their dancefloor shaking, unclassifiable 12"s, but also their series of deep dub 7"s perfect for that after-club spliff.

This release comes to us from NYC based act Subatomic Sound System, a production crew/ live soundsystem/ mobile studio/ community/ musician's collective/ way-of-life committed-to-individuality-and-the-pursuit-of-personal-freedom

born and raised in New York City by Emch and Tha Riddim Doktor. "Our Father, Our King" is a heavy heavy dub tune with crushing drums, delayed out instrumentation, with a traditional Yiddish melody played atop it, perfectly fusing monster dub sounds with middle eastern vibes – but standing far apart from any kind of light "Buddah Bar" type vibe.

The remix on the flip comes from Chronic Sonata, who came to attention with their dub "Everyday" 7" on Bastard Jazz, and have more recently released a 12" to much acclaim with their "Waiting Is Dub EP" on new Japanese label Tip Of the Iceberg. Their remix of "Our Father, Our King" was mixed and dubbed out Brooklyn style in Ticklah's studio (where much of the Antibalas material was recorded) by the one Victor Rice, NYC ska legend, bassist, producer – and dubmaster extraordinaire.
