See-I - The King (w/ Magic Fly Remix)

Bastard Jazz is back once again with our first proper release of 2008, and our first ever 10” release. This special little platter comes from Washington DC’s own See-I, known to many for their contributions to a number of Thievery Corporation albums.

About See-I:

Rootz and Zeebo have been fixtures on the Washington, DC music scene for over 20 years now. As the founding fathers of the See-I massive, these two brothers can be heard providing vocals on a variety of music. While Reggae is their background, they are equally skilled rocking drum’n’bass, house music, Brazilian, dub, rock, soul, downtempo and more. They are also two of the vocalists in legendary DC outfit Thievery Corporation and have toured regularly worldwide with the band and have appeared on a number of Thievery tracks, including “The Richest Man in Babylon”, “Focus on Sight”, “38.45”, and “Untouchable”. See-I are also recent signings to Washington DC’s funk fueled Fort Knox Recordings

About the record:

“The King” is See-I’s first release on Bastard Jazz, fits exactly into the extrasensory dub sound that the label has had since its inception. The original “King” tune is a seriously heavy dub tune produced by Rhythm and Culture artist and 18th St Lounge resident DJ Thomas Blondet with its conscious lyrics and deep delayed out horn lines. On the flip, Bastard Jazz artist The Magic Fly flips The King on its head for an incredibly funky reggae workout with big bouncy drums and upfront guitar that sounds like it could’ve come straight out of the Randy’s studio in the early 70s! Another dubwise Bastard Jazz platter inna that eclectic Brooklyn style!

Reaction:

“See-I The King original mix is a sweet dub with conscious lyrics that's good for any downtempo-dub dancefloor. The Magic Fly remix on the flipside is straight up ready for big radio play around the World. People will eat this record up!” – Nickodemus

“Bubbly Dub Funk that has me rockin’!!” – J-Boogie

“Really like the mp3s! Nice! Gonna play it out this weekend!” –DJ Vadim

“…Once again from the Bastard Jazz crew!” –Mark Rae
